World Renewable Energy Congress – 13.-17.05.
Denver: The biennial World Renewable Energy Congress provides over 200 sessions including presentations of technical papers, forum sessions and panel discussions. It will examine how renewable energy technologies address the world’s economic, environmental and security challenges at every scale, from off-grid villages to gigawatt power plants. Stefan Schurig, WFC Director Climate and Energy, will present on the topic “FIT for Future – How a Feed in Tariff (FIT) and SDRs can boost the renewable energy sector”.
The congress is part of the World Renewable Energy Forum 2012.

Access to Sustainable, Renewable Energy in Africa as Prerequisite for the
MDGs – 22.-26.05.
Bellagio: As 2012 marks the UN International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, the African Renewable Energy Alliance (AREA) will focus on identifying and promoting the necessary frameworks and instruments for the scaling up of access to renewable energy for all African citizens to improve their livelihoods and to protect the environment. Universal access to sustainable energy means
the provision of access to clean and affordable energy with low greenhouse gas emissions for electricity, cooking, lighting, heating and cooling as well as processing.
The conference “Access to Sustainable Renewable Energy in Africa as Prerequisite for the MDGs” will serve as a high level platform for discussion and the development of implementation models. Participants of the conference – policy makers, stakeholders from business, civil society, academia and multilateral organizations – are invited to network, catalyze ideas and share information in a focused manner. The meeting aims to concentrate on the evaluation and dissemination of proven models for access to renewable energy, with brief introductions and inputs serving as the basis for collaboration to resolve operational issues, barriers and challenges as well as elaboration of sustainable solutions on various levels of implementation.

Rio de Janeiro: In this official Rio+20 side event starting at 11:30 a.m. in Rio Centro high level speakers share their views on safeguarding a sustainable future - an essential requirement to ensure a meaningful outcome at Rio+20. We will discuss the possible Rio outcomes and what they mean for child and youth representatives, representatives of networks committed to social justice, the rights of nature, practitioners in the field of future generations and internationally recognized authorities on future justice governance.
The event is co-organized by the World Future Council, Terre Des Hommes, Social Watch, Rio+Twenties and the Earth Charter International. Speakers include Dr. Maja Göpel, Director of WFC's Future Justice, Danuta Sacher, Terre des Hommes, Roberto Bissio, Social Watch and Mirian Vilela, Earth Charter International.

Rio de Janeiro: The Foundation Getulio Vargas hosts a whole day of sessions on Open and Participatory Sustainable Development Governance, co-organized by the World Future Council and sponsored by the Ford Foundation and Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Objectives are to highlight governance commitments from around the world, to develop an agenda of good governance reforms for the coming decade and to advance ideas on how to build legal frameworks at the national, regional and international levels to implement Principle 10. 11th World Wind Energy Conference – 03.-05.07.
Bonn: WFC Founder Jakob von Uexkull and Stefan Schurig, WFC Director Climate and Energy, speak at the 11th World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC). In addition, the WFC co-organizes a side event titled „FIT2.0: The way forward“. At this year’s Conference 200 speakers from all over the world will discuss aspects of wind power with special focus on community power and decentralized ownership models.
