Rae Kwon Chung, Director, Environment and Sustainable Division, UNESCAP
Professor Chung is the director of the environment and sustainable division of the United Nations Economics and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Having studied Economics at Sung Kyun Kwan University in Korea, he completed his masters at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Since the early nineties Professor Chung has been working in the international political arena, focusing mainly on environmental issues. In his various roles within of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chung has been a part of a number of key global meetings on the environment, including the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. In the mid nineties Professor Chung became part of the Permanent Mission of Korea to the United Nations, and was the coordinator for technology transfer of the first Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UN Climate Change Convention (UNCCC). He was also a member of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and a lead author for an Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on technology transfer.
